Magnolia Hears The Signal
Magnolia really made a name for itself after scooping up the U.S. rights to The Host a few months back, and this year’s Sundance proved that the monster flick wasn’t just a one-off for the company when it comes to horror.
According to The Hollywood Reporter in the very early hours of the morning Magnolia finalized a deal for the horror film The Signal from writers/directors David Brucker, Jacob Gentry, and Dan Bush. Why three writers and directors? The film is told from three perspectives, each giving a unique viewpoint on a horrible situation that begins when a mysterious signal is broadcast through every TV, radio, and cell phone in the city, turning all those who hear it into raving killers.
Sound familiar? It should as it’s almost identical to the basic plot for Stephen King’s Cell, but something tells me The Signal has got a bit more class. Magnolia sure thought it was worth some effort as they were apparently very aggressive in making sure they acquired the film.
