Lynch Puts Burke Under Suveillance
Can you believe it’s been over 10 years since Jennifer Chambers Lynch, daughter of auteur David Lynch, has directed a film? Well, it has, as her first film, Boxing Helena, came out way back in 1993, and she’s just now settling into the director’s seat again for a supernatural cop thriller called Surveillance.
Production Weekly got the word that Ladder 49 star (though most fans will remember him from films like Komodo and The Fallen) Billy Burke has been cast in the lead role, playing an FBI agent on the trail of a serial killer using the help of potential victims to get closer and closer.
Is it just me or does this sound like a really pedestrian movie for someone with the Lynch name to tackle? I know it’s been a while since she’s done much, but Boxing Helena was a cool and disturbing little film; Surveillance sounds like a souped-up movie of the week. Though I guess when all we have to go on is a log line, perhaps it’s best to withhold judgment until we hear more.

The first chunk of casting for the upcoming monster/sci fi/Viking epic Outlander has taken place, and as I always predicted would happen, Jesus has stolen the role. Specifically, Jim Caviezel, who played Jesus in Mel Gibson’s gore film The Passion of the Christ, is in talks to take the lead role in the Weinstein Co. flick, which is set to roll next month in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Wow, how many movies do you hear about being made in Newfoundland? Weird.
