Gordon Does More Lovecraft!

Gordon to direct Thing on the Doorstep! When it was first announced over a year ago that producer Robert Katz was revitalizing the Amicus Entertainment label, the British studio that was a direct rival for Hammer Films back in their heyday, I really expected to hear a lot more news more often about them. Until today, though, all has been quiet.

But with Cannes going down deals are being made left and right, and Amicus just got a very good one, indeed, according to Variety. Moonstone Entertainment CEO Etchie Stroh announced at the festival that he and Katz would be partnering on bringing three to four films a year to fruition, including some exciting new horror projects under the Amicus banner.

Among the few mentioned in the story were a Stuart Gordon adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s The Thing on the Doorstep, which Gordon's in pre-production for now, a psychological thriller called Recall, about a chance meeting between a man and a woman that causes the man to doubt his sanity, and an unnamed high-profile horror book adaptation for Tobe Hooper, still in the discussion stage.

Sounds pretty damn cool to me! The first film under the Amicus banner, Stuart Gordon’s Stuck, is still awaiting some kind of distro deal to get out the public, but don’t be surprised if you start hearing about a festival run for it very soon.
