Giant Claw, More to DVD

The Giant Claw finally comes home!Fans of B-movie horrors of the 40’s & 50’s will be in for a treat this Halloween when both Columbia and Fox both release DVD box sets containing an eclectic mix of some of their lesser known horrors, and in the case of Columbia’s, a “From Here to Obscurity” favorite (review here) boasting quite possibly the goofiest looking movie monster of all time. Creepy Classics scored the scoop:

“At the CinEvent Film Conference in Columbus I ran into reps from studios that are releasing some classics for the Halloween season this year (Thank you Michael, Jessica and friends). Three classic horror box sets are coming to DVD this fall. One from Columbia and one from Fox. The Columbia set will include The Werewolf (1956 with Steven Rich), Creature With the Atom Brain(1955 with Richard Denning), Zombies of Mora Tau (1957), The Giant Claw (1957) and one other title to yet announced. The suggested retail price will be around 24.95. They will not be released separtately. The Fox set will include Chandu the Magician (1932 with Bela Lugosi as Roxor), The Undying Monster (1942, Fox’s answer to The Wolf Man), The Lodger (1944 with Laird Cregar), Hangover Square (1945, also with Cregar) and Man Hunt (1941 with Walter Pidgeon, Joan Bennett, George Sanders, John Carradine and Roddy McDowell). Finally Kino will be packaging some of their horrors in a new box set (all previously released on single discs).”

There are no further details at this time, obviously, given that there has yet to be a more formal announcement from the respective studios. Expect more info in the weeks to come.

Given that The Giant Claw is one of my favorite creature features of the atomic age era (not too many movies about a giant anti-matter buzzard from outer space brought to life by a ridiculous-looking marionette out there) I find myself thrilled to death that it’s finally getting a DVD release, though at the same time a little disappointed that it’s only in a box set and not an individual release.
