Finally Four Flies on Grey Velvet Comes Home!

Four Flies on Grey Velvet! Were you beginning to think you’d never be able to complete your Dario Argento DVD collection? I know I sure as hell was; almost every single one of the man’s movies has been released on DVD, sometimes more than once, save for one: Four Flies on Grey Velvet. Until now!

I’m not sure how they got around the rights issues that have prevented Four Flies from being released in the States to date, but Mya Communications will be putting the DVD on shelves come February 24th, 2009. The film will be fully uncut and come with a teaser trailer, original trailer, English opening and closing credits, and an extensive gallery of art for the film.

Four Flies on Grey Velvet is the story of a rock drummer named Roberto who accidentally kills a man he believes has been stalking him. Of course someone was on the scene with a camera and got the whole incident on film, and pretty soon a spiraling descent into madness ensues as Roberto tries to cover up the quickly mounting body count.

It should also be noted that MYA will be releasing a 2-disc set of Argento's DOOR INTO DARKNESS on Jan. 27. This has folks wondering if MYA has any connection to NoShame films, which had D.I.D. on their schedule before going under in the U.S. MYA will be putting out an early comedy by Lucio Fulci called THE MANIACS (1964) on the 27th too.

The only film left in the Argento catalog that has no official release is 1973's FIVE DAYS OF MILAN.

This is fantastic news! I've been wanting this film for at least ten years now. I'm a die-hard fan of old school Argento, all the way up to Trauma, which was the last film of his I really dug. His older films have such style, even as far back as his first effort, Bird W/ The Crystal Plumage.

We finally get to complete our "animal trilogy"! Yeah!
