Wow, of all the sequels I expected to be announced in the coming months, I would have honestly never said Screamers 2 would be one of ‘em. Shows what I know!
Moviehole learned that Kaw director Sheldon Wilson is on board to direct the sequel to the Christian Duguay-helmed 1995 original, which will see a group of survivors eeking out an existence on planet Sirus 6-B that are threatened by a new form of Screamers; Screamers that can morph into human form before destroying their prey!
Funny, someone just brought up this movie in a recent Dinner for Fiends (I’ll be damned if I can remember which one or who mentioned it), which means someone in Hollywood must have been listening!
Screamers 2 will film this January in Canada (of course); expect more as casting gets underway!
Wonder who could replace Peter Weller in your heart on the Dread Central forums!

Screamers was a solid sci-fi flick with a good cast and interesting premise. Hopefully the sequel will capture the same gritty sense as the first film.

The original isn't a great film by any stretch but I remember being pleasantly surprised anyway. Of course this may have been due to the extreme lack of genre film releases in the 90ies. I haven't re-visited it since I saw it back then but if they come out with a halfway decent DVD to coincide with the DTDVD sequel I'll bite.
