Ready to see what Platinum Dunes' version of Jason Voorhees looks like?
Yup, that picture up top is the first ever photo of Derek Mears as the Camp Crystal Lake Killer, according to Bloody Disgusting. This image comes courtesy of this week's edition of Entertainment Weekly, but I hope it's bigger in the magazine. It is kind of hard to tell, but Jason does appear to be wearing his signature hockey mask ... but he also looks to be sporting a tan. Odd.
Platinum Dunes' Friday the 13th, under the direction of TCM and Pathfinder director Marcus Nispel, will be in theatres on February 13, 2009, where the mysterious Mr. Voorhees will hunt down and slaughter a group of beautiful young camp counselors.

I actually thought it was an over the shoulder shot behind young mutant Jason looking at a camper on the shore.
I'm guessing that he's got a dirty shirt on, I really don't think they'd give Jason the bare chested treatment.
I'm a bit bummed that he's the one showing up killing campers instead of his sac-headed-mother, bit more interesting of a start to the series really, unexpected and all.

Seriously though, the atmosphere is nearly tangible in that photo. And that's what I expected from Nispel.

While I found part 6's Jason to be bland, I thought Jason's look from 7 was the best and most menacing of the series. It's all about the exposed spine on the back.
I also dug that part 9 look, what little we saw of it. Part 8 was easily the worst though especially when Jason lost his mask and looked like a Madball.
