Empty Acre Heading to DVD

Empty Acre DVD BoxartFangoria just reported the good news that on August 14th Cinema Epoch will be releasing writer/director Patrick Rea's The Empty Acre (review here) on DVD. As regular readers of the site are aware, I'm a big fan of Rea's work so it's terrific to hear Acre will finally be given a chance to reach the audience it so richly deserves.

The disc will feature the following extras:

  • Audio commentary by Rea and the producers
  • Deleted scenes
  • Alternate ending
  • Short film made by Rea while attending film school
  • Still gallery
  • Trailer
  • Expanding on his original description of the film as "slow and creepy," Rea tells Fango, "It’s along the lines of The Twilight Zone. I didn’t want to make something gory, but rather a film that has eerie atmosphere and is disturbing psychologically... Epoch’s Greg Hatanaka has been great to work with and very supportive of the movie... The film is ambiguous, and I’m hoping that people will have something to discuss after watching it."

Rea is currently gearing up to start his second feature, which will also be shot in his home state of Kansas. He won't give away any plot details other than saying that "it plays on some of the fears of tornado season in Kansas. Right now we’re building the set, and I have a guy in LA who did effects on Buffy and Angel making the monster. It looks great."

Speaking of great, be sure to click here to check out Emergency Preparedness, one of Patrick Rea's recent short films that is spotlighted in our Broadband section. And then head on over to the EvilShop to preorder The Empty Acre DVD.
