Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem (2007)

Though nowhere near as bad as the original, AVP: Requiem did nothing to instill confidence in the hearts of fans that this crossover was ever a good idea. Setting it on modern-day Earth was their first mistake, actually trying to make characters you care about before killing them off their second, and making the ballsy decision not to use any lights when filming was their last. Attitude for Destruction (2008)

I have to say, it’s been a long time since there was a movie about a rock and roll band dealing with the devil. I miss those days. Enter Attitude for Destruction, which follows the band Hollywood Roses as they come closer to fame and fortune. The label that wants to sign them doesn’t want the lead singer, Drake, however, so the remaining band members kill him. Makes sense. Only Drake’s girlfriend had a pact with the devil and she brings him back from the dead, ready to both kill and rock, a lethal combination! Buy it here!
The Backwoods (2007)

This is one I’ve been looking forward to for a while now, since it’s got Gary Oldman and a deformed child in it, though sadly it’s not as cool as I’d hoped. Oldman stars as a hunter who takes his wife and two friends out to his remote cabin for a weekend away. One morning the two men find a girl, deformed and dirty, locked inside a barn. They get her out and make plans to bring her to safety, but the local townspeople don’t want her out, they believe she’s a punishment from God and must be kept locked away. Curse of Lizzie Borden II: Prom Night (2007)

Wow, just when you thought it was safe to keep an axe around the house, Lizzie Borden returns from the dead yet again to keep on her rampage. This no-budget sequel to the no-budget “>Curse of Lizzie Borden (review) sees the murderess come back to make prom night the last night for a group of, I’m sure, incredibly obnoxious teens. How coincidental that it comes out the same week as the Prom Night remake? Buy it here!

Here it is, boys and girls; the film everyone’s been talking about since it started its festival life over a year ago. A movie that is so shocking and horrific not even Uncle Creepy can figure out who to recommend it to. Essentially we have a story about a pregnant woman who is trapped in her home by a madwoman who wants nothing more than to steal her baby. Kinky Killers (2007)

Patients of a sexy psychiatrist and eccentric lawyer are being systematically slaughtered in bloody, satanic rituals. The cops find that the killer likes to tattoo his victims after they’re murdered in the most horrific ways, so its up to the lead detective to find out who’s doing the killings and why before its too late. One of the most ridiculous covers I think I’ve ever seen for a DVD, and I’ve seen a lot. Why is she just standing there screaming? In the middle of the street? Buy it here!
Loch Ness Terror (2007)

Somehow, the monster from Loch Ness has found its way into Lake Superior and is biting people to death. Or something like that. The film was originally aired on Sci Fi as Beyond Loch Ness, the film isn’t as bad as it should be, if “>Foywonder’s review is to be trusted (and why would he lie?) and in fact is quite a bit of fun. Why they changed the title I’m not sure, but that cover sure grabs ya. Buy it here!
Malefique (2002)

Before he got sucked into making the One Missed Call remake that was recently stinking up box offices, Eric Valette made this smart, claustrophobic horror film in his home country of France that is just now seeing a DVD release here in the states. The story is about four men locked in a prison cell together, and what happens when one of them finds a book of ancient magic spells hidden in the walls one day. The Minus Man (1999)

In this very strange indie film, Owen Wilson stars as a murdering drifter who chooses his victims by finding people who complain about their lives and show a willingness to die. Sheryl Crow is his first victim, as he settles into a house run by an unhappy couple, of which Brian Cox is the husband. A cop plagues him in his dreams (Dwight Yoakam) and he starts up a relationship with a postal clerk (Janeane Garafalo). And it’s actually a horror film! Weird. Buy it here!
Queen Cobra (2007)

The story of an over-eager college professor who meets up with an over-eager student and the horror the ensues when, apparently, he starts combining her DNA with that of a cobra. Or something like that. Eventually the girls starts killing students around campus, becoming less and less human, but still desiring revenge against the man who took advantage of her and made her into a snake woman. Retribution (2006)
Directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa
A new brand of head-fuck movie from the director of Pulse, Retribution follows a detective who is investigating the mysterious death of a girl in a red dress. She was found facedown in a puddle of mud, but her stomach was full of seawater. As more bodies show up, more and more of the detective’s personal items are found with the victims until even he has to question his own involvement in the deaths. Buy it here!
Things (1993)

Ah, a lost anthology from the 90’s, this has got to be good! The first story is about a woman out to get her revenge on the woman her husband is cheating on her with, the second is about the mayor of a mining town who holds his city in a grip of fear by threatening a monster he’s found in the mines on them, and the final story is about a woman trying to escape her violent husband, only to reach beyond the grave to get her revenge.
