Dark Castle Finds an Orphan

What is the trend with evil children movies these days? None of the ones I’ve seen/heard of have been made with the same creepiness that made the subgenre cool in the first place, but someone out there will get it right again I’m sure. I doubt, however, that someone is Dark Castle.

Daily Variety officially announced a new Dark Castle film this morning called Orphan, which has been discussed around the ‘Net as of late. Peter Sarsgaaard and Vera Farmiga are set to star as a set of parents who lose their child and to fill the gap adopt a 9-year-old girl who is not as innocent as 9-year-olds are traditionally accepted to be.

Dark Castle’s not done anything since House on Haunted Hill that really impressed me, and even that one was stretching the definition of “impress”; will this be more of the same? Let’s hope not! Filming starts next week in Toronto and Montreal under the direction of House of Wax helmer Jaume Collet-Serra, so expect more soon!
