CBS Taps Barnz for Beastly
The folks at CBS Films are finally moving forward on their adaptation of the Alex Finn YA novel Beastly, bringing on board Daniel Barnz to direct the film, according to this morning’s Hollywood Reporter.
Beastly is the story of a cocky teenager who is turned into a monster by a witch in his class, and the only way to go back to being normal is to find true love. Certainly not easy when you’re in high school. Producers are seeking a “young heartthrob” to play the cursed teen.
Barnz wrote and directed Phoebe in Wonderland and is attached to pen a movie about gangs in Southern California called Under and Alone. No word on how the monster effects will be handled in Beastly, but keep your fingers crossed for an actual monster and not a CG creation!

Word came down via THR this morning that Monster producer Clark Peterson is returning to the world of serial killers with Dear Mr. Gacy. The film will be an adaptation of The Last Victim, the memoirs of Jason Moss, who corresponded with serial killer John Wayne Gacy during the last year of the killer’s life and narrowly avoided being killed himself.

I vote Thomas Dekker for the lead. Unless they decide to go with an unknown.
