The Doubtful Guest comes to the big screenIf you’ve been waiting for something other than the opening credits for “Mystery” (before your time?) to come to the big screen from the brain of famed author/illustrator Edward Gorey (The Gashlycumb Tinies), you’re in luck thanks to Walden Media, Fox 2000 and the Jim Henson Co.

It was announced today that a live action feature of The Doubtful Guest, based on the story of the same name by Gorey (get it through Evilshop!), is on its way to the big screen. The tale is about a whimsical family whose life is turned upside down when a mysterious creature shows up in their life and causes havoc and destruction wherever it goes.

“It’s hard to come up with a creature that you’ve never seen before in any medium, and he’s a unique little creation who is very appealing without being cute or cloying,” said Lisa Henson, CEO of the Jim Henson Co., in relation to the creature. “He’s sophisticated yet simple at the same time, but it’s not overly juvenile. Adults can find him cute, too.”

Brad Peyton (Evelyn: The Cutest Dead Girl) will helm the pic working from a script by Matthew (Dealing) Huffman. We’ll be following this one as close as we can since we’re all fans of Gorey’s work, so stay tuned for more!
