In 1997 Mark A.Z. Dippé released a film version of Todd McFarlane's forever popular franchise Spawn. It sucked. In fact, it sucked bad. Fingers were pointed, fans were disappointed, McFarlane vowed redemption... one day. But will that day ever come?

We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but word has come that Scottish actor Nicol Williamson has died in Holland at the age of 73 from cancer. Apparently he passed just before Christmas, but the news is just now getting out.

Every few months or so an update comes in from creator Todd McFarlane regarding the possibility of a new Spawn film. How far along is it? What's the status? Will he direct? McFarlane himself recently answered all of these questions.

Other than the animated HBO series, Todd McFarlane's Spawn has never been done right in terms of a good adaptation. In fact, I still have a bit of a headache from the last live-action film. McFarlane knows it sucked, too, and has long been talking about making a new movie featuring the devilish character himself. Today he shed a bit more light on the subject.

Though talk about a new Spawn movie has been lingering in the ears of fans everywhere for some time now, it appears that creator Todd McFarlane is just about ready to make it happen -- himself!

I guess it’s not surprising to hear that Leonardo DiCaprio is Todd McFarlane’s number one choice for the lead in a Spawn reboot (there’s that damn word again). These days comic adaptations are the rage, and top-tier Hollywood talent has been all over the recent trend, often translating into box office gold.

I still remember leaving the theatre after watching the Spawn movie. My head was killing me. All that CGI. All those loud effects. The cartoonish looking battles. The missed opportunities. The only thing right with it was surprisingly enough John Leguizamo's portrayal of Clowny. What could a sequel or a remake hold for us spurned fans?

Spawn. Lots and lots and lots of Spawn. I’m going to be honest, I didn’t realize this character was still so popular with the masses, but judging by McFarlane’s upcoming selection of Spawn figures, he’s more popular than ever. Feast your eyes below!
