Angst Reigns Supreme in The Final

Revenge is a dish best served with your foot up someone's ass. This is especially true for the proverbial kids who cannot take it anymore in the new slasher/revenge flick The Final.

MattFini's Halloween Top 10 Lists: Overlooked Slashers

It’s hard to surprise people when putting together a list of the best slasher movies and, in the interest of doing so, I thought I’d exclude all the genre mainstays from the list. This list doesn’t necessarily represent the “ten best”, but rather some of the slasher subgenre’s more ‘overlooked’ offerings.

Exclusive First Images: Like Half-Naked Cheerleaders? Welcome to Spirit Camp!

We never turn down a chance to ogle images of cheerleaders in their underwear here around the Dread Central offices, but it's especially cool when said sexy subjects are also starring in a horror film! Get ready for your first look at Spirit Camp!

Mick Foley Would Argue Al Snow Has No Legacy

I'm increasingly coming to the conclusion that The Wrestler was a pack of lies. Judging by the number of low budget horror movies starring pro wrestlers past their prime instead of being washed up and struggling to make ends meet, Randy the Ram would have been starring in a movie like The Legacy in place of Al Snow. From playing a crazy wrestler that came to the ring with a severed head to playing a crazy killer more likely to sever heads. A natural progression, I think.

See Hatchet Again During the Slasherpalooza!

As a Halloween gift for Los Angeles horror fans, Adam Green's Hatchet will be shown at the Fairfax Silent Movie Theater as part of the Cinemfamily SLASHERPALOOZA night on Thursday, October 29th, at 8pm. The film will screen on a glorious 35mm print saved over from its 2007 theatrical run.

First Word on You Are Next

In the slasher subgenre lots of things have been tackled, including every major holiday and rite of passage. Halloween, Prom Night, Mother's Day, you name it. Yet, according to Declan O'Brien, the one night of the year that hasn't been tapped is Homecoming, and that's exactly what he plans on tackling with his latest feature, You Are Next.

Declan O'Brien Talks Wrong Turn 3

This scribe hit the black carpet of Rachel Belofsky’s 2009 Screamfest in Hollywood, CA, last night for a screening of Declan O’Brien’s Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead (review here), and to interview the director. The flick streets to DVD today via 20th Century Fox. Watch the interview for O’Brien’s take on his film, as well as word on his upcoming genre opus You Are Next.

Matt Barr Talks Life and Death on Harper's Island

If you missed out on watching "Harper's Island" (review here) during its television run, shame on you. Now that the show is available on DVD, you have no more excuses. Recently we sat down with one of the series' stars, Matt Barr, who played "Sully", to talk about what it was like living and dying on the now infamous slasher vacation spot.

Motion Picture Purgatory: Sorority Row

Oh, Sorority Row, how you let us down. Most of us went in hoping/expecting it would live up to its R rating with boobs, blood, and a big finale. Instead, we got (as Nomad wrote in his Sorority Row review) "a butt-numbing experience, watching the ladies be picked off in the lamest ways possible (save one shining moment that is too little, too late)." Now it's Trembles' turn to weigh in.

Night of the Dribbler DVD Dunking Next Week

Earlier this year I reported on Code Red DVD planning to release the never-before-seen 1995 slasher spoof Night of the Dribbler about a psycho in a basketball mask killing off a high school basketball team. At the time a release date was not set in stone. Now I find out that release date is next week, September 8th to be exact.
