This past summer we got the first word on Howland, a short film from writer/director Domenic Del Carmine, and he dropped us a line this week to let us know that not only did the flick have an awesome premiere in Connecticut on August 13th, but now it's going to be available for everyone at the end of October - on YouTube.

Jack the Ripper is going to lay a finger on your Butterfinger this Halloween if Fathom Events has anything to do with it. Would you pay premium ticket prices to watch a comedy horror short promoting a candy bar in a movie theater? What if it was the warm-up act for a Jack the Ripper docu-drama?

Can anyone verify for me that Ron Purtee sleeps? I've got to doubt it. The creator of The Social Media Massacre just recently treated us to his newest short film, Love Is Not Enough. Now, before we could even digest that movie, he hits us with another short film to creep us out. Say hello to Minion.

Just a few days ago we told you about The Halloween Kid, a spooky Halloween fairy tale that will be both written and directed by Axelle Carolyn, and now that her online funding campaign has kicked off, Axelle has shared a blooper reel with us and promises lots of announcements soon, including the short film's first cast member and some new concept art.

Next up in Dread Central's Q&A interview series featuring several of the filmmakers whose work was selected as an official selection of the 2011 Shriekfest Film Festival in Los Angeles, California, is indie horror multi-hyphenate Dave Reda.

On Thursday, September 29th, the 2011 Shriekfest Film Festival kicks off in Los Angeles. The festival annually celebrates the best filmmakers working on the independent horror scene, and to get you indie horror-loving fans out there ready for this year's films, Dread Central will be bringing you a series of exclusive Q&A interviews with many of Shriekfest's featured filmmakers over the next week or so.

Once again, the Horrible Imaginings Horror Film Festival of San Diego will extend the Halloween season with two days of short films, features, door prizes, and a haunted art gallery. This year's event, which takes place November 4th and 5th, will be bigger and better than last--and scarier, too!

That magical time of the year is quickly headed our way, and that's cause for much celebration within the horror community. And some people, in this case Axelle Carolyn, will be celebrating by releasing a new short film!

Warning: Laying a finger on Rob Lowe's Butterfinger will likely result in it being chopped off and shoved where the sun don't shine. What the hell are we talking about, you ask? Lowe's new horror comedy short Butterfinger the 13th. Yes, a short film directed by Rob Lowe and produced by Nestle to help promote Butterfinger candy bars is coming to an Internet near you this October, and we've got the trailer!

And the lineup for this year's Sitges Film Festival, which runs 6-16 October on the Catalan coast of Spain, continues to grow. A big batch of "Special Session" short films has been added to the lineup, including seven episodes of the Cinemax "Femme Fatales" TV series directed by a host of popular genre directors such as Richard Hollis, Frank McCloud, Steve Kriozere, Mark A. Altman, Darin Scott, and Buddy Giovinazzo.

The 2011 Bram Stoker International Film Festival, running October 28th-31st, takes place in Whitby, North Yorkshire, England, and shows independent narrative features, documentaries, and shorts from around the world, many of which will be having their world or UK premieres at this year's fest.
