Despite its low budget, a mostly no-name cast, and age, many fans out there still find John Carpenter's original masterpiece Halloween to be one of the best film's our genre has ever seen; and we completely agree. Filmmakers Josh Hasty and Kenny Caperton certainly feel the same way as they've made a prequel of sorts to that film and not Zombie's. Ever wonder what led up to Judith Myer's staying home that fateful evening? Get ready to experience one fan's rendition of that sliver of backstory.

Halloween may be over, but that doesn't mean we aren't still on the lookout for the latest treat to share with you guys. On today's agenda we have "Blood Trail", an almost three-minute animated short/trailer that promotes writer Matt Cochran’s screenplay of the same name.

In an act of complete nepotism, this scribe is proud to announce that his sister Peggy Decker’s horror short Crymson Water (which she executive produced and which was filmed in Northern California last summer) will premiere this Sunday, August 9 at the Raven Performing Arts Theater in Healdsburg, CA (115 North Street). Doors open at 7:00 pm (as does the wine and micro-brew bar) and admission is $7 – not a bad price to find out “Who Guards the Lifeguards?” (as the film’s tag-line questions).
