Honor StudentStarring Peggy Schott, Elise Gardner

Directed by Aaron B. Koontz

I think that we all can agree that in certain points in our life, we simply go through the motions, aimlessly ambling past each passing day as if time stood still, and whether or not you’ve got a lot going on, it’s always best to look around you when you’re in the middle of your existence – you simply never know what’s in your rear-view mirror.

Honor Student, the short film from director Aaron B. Koontz (producer of Starry Eyes and the director of the upcoming Camera Obscura), gives us a look at the hum-drum goings on of a woman (Schott) as she trudges her way through her span on this planet. Her demeanor is funereal, her motivation is indolent, and the gloom and doom that follows her is disheartening – the lady’s a freakin’ mess, basically. Lumbering through a thankless job, what more possibly could be in store for this malcontent soul?

Koontz piles listlessness upon contrition in this quickie that certainly isn’t the remedy to brighten a dismal day, nor is it technically “horror” – it’s a dour delve into the life (if you can call it that) of a woman who’s direction is undetermined, but something tells me that her fate has already been planned out. A decent watch for those who revel in the misery of others, so revel on, ya lunatics!
