Kevin Munroe, the director of TMNT and the upcoming Dylan Dog adaptation, “>Dead of Night, started talking about another high-concept project he’s working on with Dark Horse recently called War Monkeys. THR reports that the project is gearing up for an early 2009 start.
War Monkeys is a horror/comedy about two janitors who get stuck in an underground research facility over the Christmas holiday and have to deal with military-trained Rhesus monkeys, which sounds like it’d be very cute but is likely quite terrifying.
Veteran Hong Kong actor Sammo Hung is in talks to star as one of the janitors. The script was penned by Christ Nettles, who got the story from Dark Horse Films’ Chris Patton. The monkeys will be pulled off with a combination of real, animatronics and CG simians. Pretty ambitious for a Dark Horse project!
Right now I’m just hoping Munroe does well with Dead of Night; the validity of a movie about military-trained monkeys in our genre will have to come later.
