Matt Lucas is Burton’s Tweedledum!

I may not be the biggest fan of Tim Burton, but the thought of his style used to populate Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland does tickle my interest. Regardless of my opinion of the filmmaker, the news that came down today about Alice in Wonderland‘s recent cast made this a must see.

According to Variety, Matt Lucas, one half of the duo who brought us “Little Britain”, has signed on to play the parts of Tweedledee and Tweedledum. If you’re unfamiliar with Matt’s work, just check out the video below. He’s sure to make the nutty twins along with the Walrus and the Carpenter quite interesting.

Lucas joins Mia Wasikowska as Alice in Burton’s retelling of a young girl’s journey beyond the looking glass. The feature will be a Disney production with a combination of motion-capture CGI and live action.

Is it pretty much a gimme that Johnny Depp will be the Mad Hatter or pull a Peter Sellers and do multiple, diverse characters?

Since we already covered who was playing Alice, we may as well report on the rest of the cast. I doubt Tim Burton is going to make a straight, happy film based on Carroll’s work.

Honestly though … I am only interested in seeing if and how he uses the Jabberwocky.

I think Lucas is a natural choice for the parts.

Horror-ish. Certainly in the hands of Burton it’s likely to play out as a nicely dark fantasy.
