Perlman on Hellboy III

Perlman on Hellboy III possibilitiesThough nothing’s been put to paper yet, speculation about Hellboy III is already starting to stir among the cast of second film, specifically Big Red himself, Ron Perlman.

Moviehole chatted up Perlman recently about the possibility of a third Hellboy, and considering “>Hellboy II: The Golden Army (review) opened at number one and is fast approaching the $100 million mark, it’s almost a no-brainer. “This ride we’re on, opening number one at the box office, that’s just icing on what was already the most delicious cake I’d ever bitten into,” Perlman told the site. “Nothing’s been announced, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a third, particularly on the heels of Hellboy II’s success. And I know Guillermo has an incredibly well articulated idea about what the third movie needs to be. It’ll answer a lot of questions. It almost needs to happen because with the ideas that he has about closing the trilogy, it would be a shame for it to go unfinished.”

Del Toro’s said in many interviews that a third film would give the series a very satisfying conclusion so, other than money and time issues (he’s going to be a bit busy with The Hobbit for the next few years), I can’t see why this wouldn’t happen.

Hopefully we’ll have more solid news soon!

    Voice of Smaug. Duh!

      “Duh!”? 🙂

      You’re absolutely right though.

I am sure Universal will take a long hard look at HBII, as it opened big, but it did not have the greatest legs (thanks in part to TDK) but it also was not as well received as they had anticipated. It has lurched on to almost 75 million domestically, and it cost over 85 million. Overseas the film will do well, but those returns will be a ways off as the film is set to release in the fall where it will perform better.

As happy as the house of monsters must be to have HB in its folds, he certainly did not bring home the bacon they thought he was going to.

Don’t forget, there will actually be two films–one will be “The Hobbit,” and the other will be a story taking place between “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings,” based on Tolkien’s notes and appendices. So, it will be a loooooong time before Del Toro gets a chance to work on a third Hellboy flick. Hell, I’d be willing to bet he doesn’t direct the next one.

As much as I loved HELLBOY 2 right now Perlman should be more concerned about what role he’ll have in THE HOBBIT.

Surely that’s more significant than ANOTHER sequel to a series that’s just scraping by.

      Goblin King?

Good Call, that would rule. Especially if they sang the version of the animated song “Where ther’s a whip, there’s a way!”

Wasn’t that in the Rankin and Bass version of Return of the King not The Hobbit? I think the Goblin song in the Hobbit was something along the lines of ‘Way down in Goblin town’ of something like that.
