Hammer & Spitfire Merge

Hammer merged with Spitfire to form HS MediaThis isn’t really huge news, but it is a further indication that the new Hammer Films will be around for a while longer than most may have expected. To date they’ve done Beyond the Rave, which I believe is still airing via MySpace, and have plans for a remake of Let the Right One In, but today it was announced in Variety they’ve become part of something bigger called HS Media.

Dutch producer John del Mol’s Cyrte Investments has acquired Guy East’s Spitfire Pictures and merged it with Hammer to form HS Media, though both companies will still operate under their respective names going forward. Cyrte has a lot of money in their corner, and the initial plan is to output six to eight films a year. But then, isn’t it always?

No specific films were mentioned for Hammer, but it was said that HS Media’s library consists mainly of Hammer films, which are being mined for remaking as you read this. Personally I’d much rather they try and continue to output more original content, but then Hollywood never listens to me, do they?
