Sony just pulled one of the greatest sleight of hand tricks in the history of gaming. Those who were lucky enough to complete the blindingly tricky P.T. demo soon found a massive surprise.
P.T. is really just a teaser for a new Silent Hill game, entitled Silent Hills.
The announcement of a new Silent Hill is already a blockbuster event, but it gets even bigger. Silent Hills is being made by spiritual horror superfan and all around genius Guillermo del Toro along with Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima.
Silent Hills will match its pedigree behind the scenes by placing “The Walking Dead” star Norman Reedus in the leading role. IGN reported that Kojima has been teasing this reveal on Twitter. Cryptic tweets about his desire to make a game starring Reedus and singing the praises of the Silent Hill franchise have all been hinting at this.
Silent Hills could shape up to take horror gaming to another level. The P.T. demo featured was very artistic ,and message boards are on fire with allegations of its final puzzle being completely random. These forums are teeming with gamers who have reported beating the game, but their techniques are not working for other players. Look for Silent Hills to be blindingly intricate or completely random.
With the latest trend of procedurally generated technology finding its way into gaming, the random theory could carry some weight. If it’s true, it could be an attempt by del Toro and Kojima to end the longstanding practice of game walkthroughs, forcing each player to figure out Silent Hills on their own. That could lead to a complete revolution in gaming.
