Guillermo’s Madness Still Alive

Not that we ever doubted the man’s intentions of making it happen, but Guillermo del Toro is still giving out good news regarding his long-gestating adaptation of At The Mountains of Madness, based on the classic H.P. Lovecraft story of the same title.
“If it comes to fruition I’d rather do that immediately while the iron is hot,” the director told IGN recenlty. “But it all depends on so many factors — creative, personal — that every time I predict what I’m going to do next, I fail.”
The project’s been in the works for so long it almost seems that it should’ve been made dozens of times by now but, much like del Toro’s own adaptation of Hellboy, which also took years to get to the screen, some things are worth waiting for. And the man has some great plans for the film when it finally does happen, despite the challenges the source story presents.
“The albino penguins, the gigantic city … The hard thing about that novel is it’s very much a record of an expedition, so the narrative is brilliant in that it’s a little bit dry but it’s not character-based…There are many characters that you don’t know — you don’t even know who the hell the expedition is [made up of] until you have it referenced in another book of Lovecraft’s.”
To make the movie right is a challenge, but one del Toro has been facing head-on for years now. He says he hopes that he can start work on the film as soon as Hellboy 2: The Golden Army is done. Hit the link above for more words of wisdom!
