Holding a Grudge at #1

#1!Even though it failed to live up to fan expectations, you have to applaud The Grudge 2 for taking the top spot at the box office this weekend. Anything that furthers the career of the great Takashi Shimizu is undoubtedly a good thing.

To celebrate, the J-horror master held a signing today at Dark Delicacies in Burbank, CA. I asked Shimizu-san if there were any plans to release the first two (and arguably best) V-cinema installments of Ju On in the United States, to which he replied: “I’d have to send you copies”. So as of now, it looks like there’s no vested interest for R1 editions of the earlier films. Funny, you’d think two massive American hits would inspire distributors to get with the program.

On a related note, this writer was interviewed by Japan America Television in regards to a special they’re doing on Shimizu’s career. If you live in the Los Angeles area, you can tune in this Saturday, October 28th at 7:30 P.M. on CH18 to catch the full program.
