James Wan Finished Making Horror Movies? All eyes have been on James Wan since 2004, when he burst onto the scene with Saw, based on a short film he had made the year prior. From there, Wan proved himself to be more than just “the torture porn guy.

He continued to impress with horror films like Insidious and The Conjuring and even the ass-kicking revenge movie Death Sentence. Hot on the heels of this weekend’s release of Insidious: Chapter Two, Wan has opened up about his future within the genre.

In an interview with Moviefone, when asked if he would be directing the third Insidious film, Wan dropped the shocking answer that he’s “finished with the horror genre.” “I spent the last ten years of my life doing this. It’s time for a change,” he went on to say.

Wan further elaborated that he’s been put into a box by Hollywood and wants the freedom to make any movies he wants, rather than being typecast as the guy who makes horror movies and only horror movies.

We knew that he was beginning to veer away from the genre when it was recently announced that Wan would be directing Fast and Furious 7, but it’s definitely a bummer to hear that he won’t be coming back. Then again, we’ve heard this sort of thing from filmmakers in the past, and I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see him make another horror flick a couple years down the road. He may be tired of it right now, but I’m pretty sure Wan’s got the genre in his blood and will someday find himself itching to scare the pants off of us again.

Wishful thinking, to say the least!
