Fox 2000 Readying The Passage for Ridley Scott
Normally the name Ridley Scott mentioned in the same sentence as the words "new vampire film" would have us giddy like a schoolgirl, but we're still busy celebrating the man's return to the Alien franchise! Yet, there is indeed life after Xenomorphs, and Fox 2000 is busy developing a project that would reunite the director with screenwriter John Logan, who worked with him on Gladiator.
Variety reports that "Logan has been set by Fox 2000 to adapt The Passage, the Jordan Ainsley vampire novel being developed for Ridley to potentially direct."
In the novel terminally ill patients become healthy after they are bitten by bats in South America, and the government conducts secret tests on human subjects to see if the virus can cure illness. The result is an apocalyptic unleashing of bloodthirsty vampire test subjects that include death row inmates.
Sounds like a damned good time to us, and since vamps are hotter now than ever, there's a good bet this baby will be on a fast-track to fruition. Look for more soon!

Director Mary Lambert is leaving the Pet Sematary behind in lieu of some more oceanographic terrors. Seems she has developed a serious case of Hydrophobia, the title of a new chiller about a killer mermaid that can only be stopped by a man afraid of water. Think of it as the anti-Splash.

Definitely, this sounds like it could have some badass vampires in it more like the 30 Days of Night variety and with Ridley at the helm, hopefully, I would expect nothing short of an amazing vampire movie to rival the best of them. Just watched Gladiator actually since it just came out on Blu-ray. What a great movie it is.

This sounds pretty awesome -- we need some down and dirty vamps to counteract all the pretty, sparkly ones we're being inundated with.
