Tim Burton and Johnny Depp on the set of Sleepy HollowAlmost a decade after he was originally attached to direct, Tim Burton is finally readying his big screen adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s musical Sweeney Todd, the story of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, under the production eye of both Warner Bros. and Dreamworks, according to Variety.

As has been reported before, Burton is directing with long-time collaborator Johnny Depp in the title role. The story revolves around a barber who was sent to prison for a series of murders and enacts revenge on those who dropped dime when he’s released from prison.

Burton was attached to direct years ago, but when he left for whatever reason, the project was handed over to American Beauty helmer Sam Mendes. That obviously never came to fruition, but the stars did re-align to make this version go down, which will get in front of cameras this February at London’s legendary Pinewood Studios. The songs will all be recorded in November and December though we’re not sure if Depp himself will be singing or not. I guess it would only make sense…
