Russian Fantasy Series The Dragon Inside Now Available to English-Language Readers

Published

on

Word of an English-language version of a popular bestselling Russian fantasy series landed on our desks this week, and since we know our readers are always on the lookout for new books to check out, we wanted to bring it to your attention. Read on to learn more about The Dragon Inside… not only does it help bridge the perceived cultural gap between the U.S. and Russia, it also gives you some exciting novels to dive into!

Becoming the Dragon and Wings on My Back, the first two books in Alex Sapegin’s action-packed fantasy series The Dragon Inside, are now available in English translation from Litworld, an innovative digital publishing house translating bestselling Russian books for the enjoyment of the English-speaking market. A Cruel Tale (Book 3) heads our way on February 26th.

The Dragon Inside is a saga of portal traveling, bodily transformations, reincarnation, and epic combat; but first and foremost it’s a story of discovering and reclaiming one’s true self.

Becoming the Dragon (Book 1) Synopsis:
Having unwittingly stumbled into the site of a scientific experiment, Andy gets teleported to a faraway planet inhabited by both human and supernatural beings. In this new world he will encounter all kinds of exciting adventures and grim challenges, mastering his newly developed magic skills; befriending orcs, elves, and dragons; fighting the good fight; and eventually continuing on his quest for justice reincarnated as a dragon.

It was obvious right from the get-go that destiny has something unique in store for Andy Kerimov, a small-town teenager who survives a direct strike from lightning which leaves him with immunity to electronic devices and extraordinary magic powers just waiting to be released. Teleported to the fairytale world of Ilanta, Andy gets no cordial welcome: He is captured, chained up, and sold into slavery — but not before he accidentally activates an ancient artifact and sets Karegar the Dragon free, who would later become his mentor and foster father. When fatally wounded, Andy chooses to undergo an ancient ritual to be reborn as a dragon, aka a Master of Heaven.

He will have to go a long way before settling into his new body and mastering his newly acquired powers. On his way he will make loyal friends and bitter enemies, going through fire and ice, defending the right, and taking the weak under his wing. Little does he know that he is destined to play a central part in an epic conflict soon to break out where the future of the two planets, as well as his now-faraway homeland, would be at stake…

Oy! HANNUKAH THE MOVIE Aims to Get Made After Nearly a Decade

Published

on

This menorah has nothing to do with the story but, c'mon! It's a freaking T-rex menorah!

As a Jew, seeing holiday-themed horror movies is both a wonderful and bittersweet occasion. I love seeing my friends celebrate the holidays that are near and dear to their hearts but elevated with the viscera, gore, and terror that I so dearly love. But while Christians have films like Black Christmas, Santa’s Slay, Gremlins, Red Christmas, Krampus, etc…, the amount of horror films centered around Jewish holidays is slim to none. Don’t get me wrong here, okay? I’m well aware of population dynamics and, therefore, interest in a given subject/life experience. It’d just be nice to see something like that now and again.

Oh, but what’s this? Looks like writer/director Eben McGarr is ready to move forward on his near decade long project Hanukkah The Movie, a “TORAH-fying new tale of HORAH!” I get it. Sensible chuckle awarded.

Obediah Lazarus is the son of Judah Lazarus, the original Hanukkiller. In 1983 Judah terrorized NY for seven nights and was preparing to sacrifice his eight-year-old son, Obediah, on the eighth night. Judah was convinced it was God’s will, like Abraham and Isaac, to sacrifice his only son to God. Luckily for Obediah, police tracked Judah down and stopped the sacrifice, but Judah was gunned down in the process. Warped by hatred with no guidance, Obediah Lazarus becomes a religious extremist, intolerant of non-Jews, “bad Jews”, and those he perceives to be enemies of the Jewish faith. He is about to unleash eight nights of horror.

A group of Jewish teens are getting ready to party for the holidays but are in for a Festival of Frights. With the help of a wise rabbi, they deduce that the murder victims have violated Judaic law and that their only chance at survival is to embrace their faith.

The film has supposedly taken care of the majority of pre-production, so they’re now on Indiegogo with the goal to raise $100,000. Not a small amount but certainly not an unachievable goal. If a potato salad Kickstarter that wanted $10 ended up with nearly $56,000, I think this has a chance.
