DVD and Blu-ray Releases: October 24, 2017

Greetings again, friends. We have a slightly slimmer list this week compared to the past couple of months. Blood Feast and The Barn may have already dropped on the 10th, but in case you didn’t see them then, check for them now.
Speaking of Blood Feast, there are a decent amount of classics this week. Reaching from 1990’s Night Angel all the way back to 1932’s The Old Dark House, there’s a pretty good potpourri of favorites from yesteryear.
In terms of newer releases, this week brings us the Blu-ray release of Annabelle: Creation, and the DVD release for Aliens: Zone Of Silence. Probably the movie I am most interested in seeing this week would be Dave Made A Maze. It looks quirky as hell and you can check out our review of it here.
There are also a couple of throwbacks to 2009 in the form of The Uninvited Blu-ray as well as the DVD release of Evil In The Time Of Heroes, featuring Billy Zane.

Aliens: Zone of Silence (2017)

Synopsis:
Four months ago, Morgan Taylor s brother, Hal, and his best friend went missing in a mysterious area of the Mexican desert known as Zona del Silencio. After receiving no help from authorities on either side of the border, Morgan heads south to uncover the truth about their disappearance, strapped with action cameras streaming footage to Hal s Marine Corps squadmate back in the United States. When her vehicle suddenly breaks down just outside the zone, Morgan must traverse the desert alone, enduring intense heat in the daytime and menacing coyotes at night. She eventually locates Hal s campsite and finds a kit filled with memory cards from his camera. The recordings reveal a series of strange noises, eerie lights in the sky, gravitational anomalies, and an extraterrestrial presence in a nearby mountain range. Convinced aliens were responsible for her brother s disappearance, Morgan must decide whether to flee with her life or attempt to expose the otherworldly beings once and for all.
Annabelle: Creation (2017)

Synopsis:
It’s Halloween 1989, best friends Sam and Josh are trying to enjoy what’s left of their final Devil’s Night before graduating high school. But trouble arises when the two pals and a group of friends take a detour on their way to a rock concert, finding an old abandoned barn and awakening the evil inside. Now it’s up to Sam and Josh to find a way to protect their friends and defeat the creatures that lurk within The Barn.
Blood Feast (1963) (2-Disc Special Edition)

Synopsis:
The filmography of late movie maverick Herschell Gordon Lewis brims with the mad, macabre, and just downright bizarre. But perhaps the most unhinged of all his directorial efforts, and certainly the most influential, must surely be his original gore-fest Blood Feast the first ever splatter movie. Dorothy Fremont is looking to throw a party unlike any other, and she gets just that when she hires the decidedly sinister Fuad Ramses to cater the event. Promising to provide her guests with an authentic Egyptian feast, Ramses promptly sets about acquiring the necessary ingredients the body parts of nubile young women! Featuring a host of stomach-churning gore gags including the infamous tongue sequence and much more nastiness besides, Herschell Gordon Lewis Blood Feast more than lives up to its name and remains essential viewing for any self-respecting splatter fan.
The Corpse Grinders (1972)

The Lotus Cat Food Company has hit major financial trouble and is on the verge of closing, until the owners realize that rather than paying for meat, they can use bodies from the local graveyard to fill their tins. Ted V. Mikels’ (The Doll Squad) legendary cult favorite, The Corpse Grinders, is a horror classic, chock full of jaw dropping twists, mind boggling surprises, and a self-aware sense of humor that became one of Ted’s trademarks. Dave Made a Maze (2017)

Evil in the Time of Heroes (2009)

Night School (1981)

Synopsis:
They work by day, take a full schedule of classes all night and somehow find time for study and an occasional date. Women in the evening curriculum at Boston’s distinguished Wendell College do a lot to get ahead in life. But there’s someone who will go to even greater lengths. Someone who will do anything to get a head. A killer whose m.o. is the ritualistic decapitation of victims makes terror a required course at Night School, directed by Kenneth Hughes (Casino Royale 1967) and starring Rachel Ward (The Thorn Birds; After Dark, My Sweet) in her screen debut. Leonard Mann plays the homicide lieutenant assigned to the puzzling case. He has hunches, not clues. Suspects, not evidence. And a rising body count. Finals are coming early this year at Wendell. And for those who don’t make the grade, heads will roll.

The Relic (1997)

Synopsis:
Margo Greene is an evolutionary biologist at a Chicago museum. When a coworker’s research crate arrives without the researcher, Green and her mentor, Dr. Forck, unpack and investigate the material which includes a superstitious relic and an unidentifiable virus found on some leaves native to Brazil. At the same time, police Lieutenant Vincent D’Agosta is investigating a ship full of dead people that arrived from Brazil. When murder occurs in the museum that is linked to those on the ship, D’Agosta seals off the museum. This infuriates the museum curator Ann Cuthbet who’s hosting an exhibit opening gala reception that even the Mayor will be attending. D’Agosta and Green find out, however, that the killer is an ever evolving creature intent on killing everyone trapped in the museum.
The Uninvited (2009)

Synopsis:
Based on Kim Jee-Woon’s 2003 Korean horror film, Changhwa Hongryon, The Uninvited revolves around Anna (Emily Browning), who returns home after spending time in the hospital following the tragic death of her mother. Her recovery suffers a setback when she discovers her father (David Strathairn) has become engaged to her mother’s former nurse, Rachel (Elizabeth Banks). That night, Anna is visited by her mother’s ghost, who warns her of Rachel’s intentions. Together, Anna and her sister (Arielle Kebbel) try to convince their father that his current fiancée is not who she pretends to be, and what should have been a happy family reunion becomes a lethal battle of wills between stepdaughters and stepmother.
