Dark Sky Films Officially Earns an M.F.A.

Published

on

We’ve been talking about the new revenge flick starring Francesca Eastwood, M.F.A. (review), for a while now; and Dark Sky Films just send over all the info we need to make sure we check this flick out ASAP!

From the Press Release:
Dark Sky Films proudly announces the release date of M.F.A., a critically acclaimed powerful thriller starring Francesca Eastwood in a standout role. The film, from a female director and a female screenwriter, takes on the searing current issue of sexual violence on campus. M.F.A. will be released on October 13th.

M.F.A., which was nominated for the Grand Jury Award at the 2017 SXSW festival, tells the gripping story of a young woman forced to take action to protect herself in “perhaps the bravest, rawest rape-revenge thriller yet” (No Film School). Noelle (Francesca Eastwood; Final Girl, Outlaws and Angels), an art student struggling to find her voice, is sexually assaulted by a fellow classmate. Attempting to cope with her trauma, she impulsively confronts her attacker, leading to a violent altercation that culminates in his accidental death. Noelle tries to return to normalcy, but when she discovers she is only one of many silenced sexual assault survivors on campus, she takes justice into her own hands. A vigilante is born – retribution is the inspiration she’s been waiting for.

M.F.A. was directed by Natalia Leite (Bare) from a debut screenplay by actress Leah McKendrick (Bad Moms). McKendrick also co-stars in the film along with Clifton Collins, Jr. (“Westworld,” Knight of Cups).

The film received glowing reviews upon its world premiere at SXSW. Variety’s Andrew Barker said, “An unapologetically feminist, female-centric take on the oft-problematic (and oft-male-gaze-dominated) rape-revenge thriller genre … Leite directs with a bracing, assertive style.” Brad Miska of Bloody-Disgusting called it “intensely engaging, thought-provoking, and also mesmerizing.” “Spectacular, risky, and wonderfully realized by Natalia Leite,” said We Live Entertainment’s Nick Casaletto.

Samuel L. Jackson Wraps on M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass

Published

on

That was fast. It was just two weeks ago that we shared your first on-set look at Samuel L. Jackson as Mr. Glass in M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming Unbreakable/Split sequel, and today we have news that Jackson has wrapped his role.

The update comes to us directly from Shyamalan himself who took to Twitter to let us all know that not only has Sam Jackson wrapped his role in Glass, but there is only one week left of filming overall.

Here is his tweet:

Does this mean the crew has gathered up enough footage to give us all a teaser trailer in the near future? I would think so, so let’s not be too surprised if that’s just what we get before the end of the year.

Fingers crossed.

The film is written & directed by M. Night Shyamalan and stars Bruce Willis, James McAvoy, Anya-Taylor Joy, Sarah Paulson, Spencer Treat Clark, Charlayne Woodard, and Samuel L. Jackson as Mr. Glass.

Glass hits theaters January 18, 2019.

Synopsis:

Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.

Published

on

Here at Dread Central, we are always on the lookout to peep and share cool new horror shorts from around the web. Case in point, director Tony Morales’ Hada.

The short film was selected for 260 festivals and received 50 awards, and you can now check it out in its entirety below.

I watched it this past weekend and there were more than a few shots contained within that chilled my bones. All about those feet moving up onto the bed. Brr. That’s all I’ll say.

Actually, I’ll say a (tiny) bit more: Someone needs to give Morales a shot at one of the new Conjuring-universe films. I think he’d knock it out of the park.

Watch the flick and you’ll see what I mean.

Again, you can check out the short below and then after giving the film a viewing, make sure to hit us up and let us know what you think in the comments below!

You can become a fan of the short film on Facebook HERE.

Synopsis:

Tonight Hada comes to visit Daniel because his last child tooth has fallen out. What Daniel doesn´t expect is that his worst enemy is the light.

Dread Central: How is the film coming along?

Rocky Gray: The film is now completed and we are getting the perks out to our Indiegogo backers. The backers and Death By Festival got to see the first cut of the film in October and they loved it so we’re very excited to get the film out to everyone else very soon.

RG: Expect to have a lot of Halloween themed fun. Each segment has its own flavor so the pacing and the look change throughout the film. With masked killers, vampires, scarecrows, tricksters and old hags there’s something for everyone.
