Warner Archive Unveils The Hidden Blu-Ray Specs and Release Date

Warner Archive has announced what we can expect from their forthcoming Blu-ray release of The Hidden. To be honest, this is more than a little disappointing. On the plus side, we’re getting a new remaster of the film. On the negative side, this 1987 gem deserves a lot more love than its getting.

The Hidden, from Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2 director Jack Sholder, is a fantastic blend of sci-fi, action, and horror, about an enigmatic FBI agent teamed up with a by-the-books L.A. cop to stop a body-jumping alien with major impulse control issues. Kyle MacLachlan, Michael Nouri, Clu Gulager, and Claudia Christian star.

Nowhere to be found in any of the extras announced: Kyle MacLachlan, Michael Nouri, Clu Gulager, or Claudia Christian.

Here’s what we are getting:

  • New Remaster of the film
  • Audio Commentary by Director Jack Sholder and Tim Hunter
  • SFX Footage with commentary by Jack Sholder
  • Theatrical Trailer
  • Audio: DTS HD-Master Audio 5.1 remix for home video/ DTS HD-Master Audio 2.0 original theatrical mix
  • Optional English SDH subtitles

The audio commentary and the SFX Footage featurette are holdovers from the DVD New Line Home Entertainment released all the way back in the year 2000.

So, again, we are getting a remastered print of The Hidden. Just a pity Warner Archive couldn’t bother to go all-out for this cult favorite. That’s called leaving money on the table. Heck, far worse movies are getting fully loaded collector’s editions these days.

The Hidden Blu-ray comes out of hiding September 12th.
