Dear David Stalks an Artist in The Gasp Menagerie

This is a story that I found originally via a very fitting source: filmmaker Rodney Ascher. Considering this tale involves hauntings and sleep paralysis, having the man behind the brilliant The Nightmare be the one posting about it seems extremely appropriate.

Adam Ellis is an artist and writer.  He makes comics.  He has a book coming out later this year that has absolutely nothing spooky in it whatsoever.

He’s long suffered from sleep paralysis.  Recently, however, that condition took an extremely dark and terrifying turn.

The thread starts here.

You can start there and read through it, and I recommend it.  The summary is simple: It appears that the ghost of a dead child, David, was haunting Adam’s old apartment.  Via dreams and sleep paralysis, Adam became aware that he could ask David two questions by saying “Dear David” first.  If he asked three, Dear David would kill him.

Of course, he slipped up and asked three.

Even though he’s changed apartments, incredibly spooky things have continued to happen.  Once you read the original thread, go back to his main Twitter feed and catch up.  Strange things have continued, and he’s documented them all.  This includes a shadowy photo out of his peephole that does seem to show something outside his door that isn’t there in other photos.

He’s also been making recordings while he sleeps and tracking the movements of his cats overnight.

It’s all really weird, really disturbing, and really interesting.  I know I’ll be keeping an eye on his Twitter account for further developments.

Explore The Gasp Menagerie!

Have a weird story? Potential evidence of the supernatural, or at least something hard to explain? Spot any creepy critters out there roaming the wilds? LET ME KNOW! I’d love to talk about it and possibly write it up right here in The Gasp Menagerie. You’ll get appropriate credit, of course, and everyone else will get fresh creepy (as opposed to fresh Creepy, which, trust me… nobody wants that) to enjoy. As always, I can be found at mrdark@dreadcentral.com. Now get out there, find some weird, and let’s get this party started.
