Earlier today we shared a preview of Sideshow’s upcoming Odium: Reincarnated Rage Maquette, and now we’re back with the announcement of yet another addition to their amazing Court of the Dead line… the Gethsemoni: Shaper of Flesh Premium Format Figure.
If you’re heading to the San Diego Comic-Con later this week, one booth you absolutely must visit is Sideshow’s (#1929), where they’ll have a crypt-load of chilling Court of the Dead collectibles both in-stock and available for pre-order, some of which we’ll be seeing for the first time.
If you can’t make it to the SDCC, don’t worry… we’ll be making Sideshow Collectibles’ booth destination number one on Preview Night and will be sharing our photos both on our social media accounts in real time and here on the site in our massive image galleries.
About the Gethsemoni: Shaper of Flesh Premium Format Figure:
“There is a saying in the Mortal Realm: ‘Measure twice; Cut once’… such a charming peek into their puerile existence.”
Sideshow is proud to present the Gethsemoni: Shaper of Flesh Premium Format Figure, the latest addition to our original Court of the Dead collection… and the newest version of one of the Court’s most beloved characters!
The Queen of the Dead stands at a stately 21” from the bottom of her colorfully macabre base of Flesh Faction magic to the tip of her imposing crown. From the tiny golden Flesh Faction symbol that hangs delicately from a chain between her breasts to the smoky eyelids of her intoxicating sneer, no detail of this figure has been left unadorned.
The leader of the Flesh Faction and mother to all in the Underworld, Gethsemoni was brought to life in her nubile and commanding glory by Master Sculptor Mark Newman. “I feel she’s expressing a calm, cool confidence with a splash of ‘you have no idea what I’m about to unleash on you,’” says Mark, of Gethsemoni’s wicked little smirk.
“My favorite element of the pose is the classic Contrapposto balance in her stance – kind of pushed to the extreme without looking forced,” he adds. “She has a slinky serpent-like grace spiraling through her body in a sort of ‘dance’ with her swirly conjured spirit goo sifting up through the Underworld.”
That “dance” with her necromancy conjuring was a major anchor point for the entire figure, driving not only sculpt but also the incredibly intricate cut-and-sew on this piece. “We wanted to create a synergy between the sculpted, flowing base; her powers; and her skirts,” says Tim Hanson, manager of Sideshow’s Fabric Design Team. “The fabrics needed to flow nicely and have that special touch of refinement by adding the bustle piece and gold trim all around. The movement and fullness of the garment was very necessary when considering the composition of the piece.”
Want a glimpse of the nasty knife that Gethsemoni’s got sheathed firmly against her thigh? The Exclusive Edition of Gethsemoni: Shaper of Flesh features the unveiled fiendish dagger.
Celebrate your Flesh Faction allegiance, or simply pay homage to the most stunning and deadly creature in the Underworld with the Gethsemoni: Shaper of Flesh Premium Format Figure!
The item shown (expected to ship May-July 2018) is a prototype. When shipped, the final production piece may differ in appearance. Click here to pre-order the figure now.
Mattel’s WWE Figures Showing Their Teeth…and Claws…And Other Monster Parts
Mattel likes to keep us on our toes! Even though we attend Toy Fair every year, they still like to throw some surprises at us, often turning up in the toy aisles with no warning whatsoever. Such was the case with last year’s WWE Mutants line, which saw your favorite wrestlers transformed into crocodile men, scorpion creatures, and multi-armed freaks of nature.
This year we’ve got a similar monster theme going, with the horrific personalities utilized being from a more familiar stable.
This lineup includes:
- Asuka as The Phantom
- Braun Strowman as Frankenstein
- Chris Jericho as The Mummy
- Jake “The Snake” Roberts as The Creature
- Roman Reigns as The Werewolf
- Undertaker as The Vampire
Execution is a mixed bag here. Since these are lower priced figures, it’s understandable if some paint and sculpting details are lost in production; and for my taste, the “mishaps” in this line lead more to hilarity than disdain, making me want to buy them all the more.
LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MASK FACE FOR ASUKA!!!
It’s like those pictures you see of someone trying to replicate a famous baker’s pop culture cake and their attempt comes out resembling a melty, deformed monstrosity. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TIMMY!! No…don’t cry…aw damnit, Timmy. You tried.
I’m also forced to point and laugh at their Frankenstein. I totally get the patchwork idea presented here, but they seem to have sewn his tank top to his body…and that’s hysterical.
Check out the rest of the line below, and look for the lot in stores and at your favorite online toy dealer now.

Sideshow Teaming with Project Raygun on New Court of the Dead Tabletop Game
If you’ve been reading this site for the past few years, you should be well aware of Sideshow’s awesome collectibles known as the Court of the Dead. If you’re as big a fan of the line as we are, then you’ll be excited to hear that a Kickstarter campaign is about to kick off for a tabletop game titled Court of the Dead: Mourners Call.
Mixing creepy cool Court of the Dead artwork and a bunch of awesome new super-detailed 3D miniatures, the game is going to be a must-have for Court fans, as well as any dark fantasy and horror enthusiasts. This highly anticipated campaign marks the latest collaborative effort between Project Raygun and Sideshow, and it will be managed by James Hudson of Druid City Games.
The Kickstarter launch is slated to commence in late April and run through mid-May. Those who contribute to the campaign have a chance to score a bunch of insane exclusives, and you can find out more by clicking here.
“Court of the Dead: Mourners Call is more than just a tabletop game; it’s an immersive in-world experience,” said Tom Gilliland, Sideshow Chief Creative Officer and creator of the Court of the Dead. Through highly-detailed card art and ornate 3D miniatures, players will be transported to the macabre and magical Underworld. Players face grave circumstances: They must balance both cooperative and competitive objectives by working with the other players to appease the morally bankrupt, oppressive celestial overlords in a way that achieves their own individual vision of a unified Underworld, ready to rise up in rebellion.

- FlixtheCat You're very kind.
- FlixtheCat I speculate that Sheri Moon takes up a lot more screen time than anyone else in the cast, there's a ton of chopped up lines that count as dialogue, an obnoxiously droning classic rock sound track, and...
- Rottenjesus I knew this was coming but it still sucks hearing they're cancelling this awesome show. Dare I hope Netflix steps in and saves it?
- Steven Millan I'm speculating that the new film takes the JEEEPERS CREEPERS 3 route in taking place either between THE DEVIL'S REJECTS and HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES or within the world of THE DEVIL'S REJECTS happening...
- Steven Millan I'm sure that Captain Spaulding,Otis B. Driftwood,Baby Firefly, and the rest of the Firefly Family clan are heavily partying over this news(since Ash would have came after them if they dared steal the...
