Sideshow Announces New Court of the Dead Gethsemoni: Shaper of Flesh Premium Format Figure

Published

on

Earlier today we shared a preview of Sideshow’s upcoming Odium: Reincarnated Rage Maquette, and now we’re back with the announcement of yet another addition to their amazing Court of the Dead line… the Gethsemoni: Shaper of Flesh Premium Format Figure.

If you’re heading to the San Diego Comic-Con later this week, one booth you absolutely must visit is Sideshow’s (#1929), where they’ll have a crypt-load of chilling Court of the Dead collectibles both in-stock and available for pre-order, some of which we’ll be seeing for the first time.

If you can’t make it to the SDCC, don’t worry… we’ll be making Sideshow Collectibles’ booth destination number one on Preview Night and will be sharing our photos both on our social media accounts in real time and here on the site in our massive image galleries.

About the Gethsemoni: Shaper of Flesh Premium Format Figure:
“There is a saying in the Mortal Realm: ‘Measure twice; Cut once’… such a charming peek into their puerile existence.”

Sideshow is proud to present the Gethsemoni: Shaper of Flesh Premium Format Figure, the latest addition to our original Court of the Dead collection… and the newest version of one of the Court’s most beloved characters!

The Queen of the Dead stands at a stately 21” from the bottom of her colorfully macabre base of Flesh Faction magic to the tip of her imposing crown. From the tiny golden Flesh Faction symbol that hangs delicately from a chain between her breasts to the smoky eyelids of her intoxicating sneer, no detail of this figure has been left unadorned.

The leader of the Flesh Faction and mother to all in the Underworld, Gethsemoni was brought to life in her nubile and commanding glory by Master Sculptor Mark Newman. “I feel she’s expressing a calm, cool confidence with a splash of ‘you have no idea what I’m about to unleash on you,’” says Mark, of Gethsemoni’s wicked little smirk.

“My favorite element of the pose is the classic Contrapposto balance in her stance – kind of pushed to the extreme without looking forced,” he adds. “She has a slinky serpent-like grace spiraling through her body in a sort of ‘dance’ with her swirly conjured spirit goo sifting up through the Underworld.”

That “dance” with her necromancy conjuring was a major anchor point for the entire figure, driving not only sculpt but also the incredibly intricate cut-and-sew on this piece. “We wanted to create a synergy between the sculpted, flowing base; her powers; and her skirts,” says Tim Hanson, manager of Sideshow’s Fabric Design Team. “The fabrics needed to flow nicely and have that special touch of refinement by adding the bustle piece and gold trim all around. The movement and fullness of the garment was very necessary when considering the composition of the piece.”

Want a glimpse of the nasty knife that Gethsemoni’s got sheathed firmly against her thigh? The Exclusive Edition of Gethsemoni: Shaper of Flesh features the unveiled fiendish dagger.

Celebrate your Flesh Faction allegiance, or simply pay homage to the most stunning and deadly creature in the Underworld with the Gethsemoni: Shaper of Flesh Premium Format Figure!

The item shown (expected to ship May-July 2018) is a prototype. When shipped, the final production piece may differ in appearance. Click here to pre-order the figure now.

Vintage Toy Finder ALERT! If You Collect This Is a MUST-READ!

Published

on

Anyone who knows me knows that when it comes to collectibles, I’m like a moth to a flame. Especially vintage toys. I, like many of you, grew up in a dysfunctional family circus. When I reached a certain age, my parents saw fit to take my most beloved toys and give them away to younger kids or just trash them completely. I’m still devastated. My childhood was pretty much nil, and I’ve been swimming in chaos ever since.

Once things finally “calmed down” a bit, I began reclaiming these relics of happier times. Damned straight I got an 18″ Kenner Alien, a Stretch X-Ray doll, a Mighty Men and Monster Maker, the Bermuda Triangle board game, etc. I revel in them as few items make me as happy as they do. As a result I always keep my eye out for things, specifically horror related toys I may have missed.

Enter 1967’s Ka-Bala, the most insane and intricate Ouija board I’ve ever seen. I don’t use Ouijas, but once I saw this, it was love at first shiver. The problem with collecting toys like this is that rarely can you find them complete. For Christmas Debi tracked down Ka-Bala for me, BUT we were missing the instructions. There’s not much sense in playing or having a board game if you don’t know said rules.

I scoured the Internet but only came up with a few sites that were charging astronomical prices for replacement parts and/or instructions. It was ludicrous. So I busted out my Creepy resources and asked our resident board game loony David Hahn, who writes Last Meeple Standing for us, for some help. Within days he and his wondrous wife, Tiffany (who also works with David on Meeple), led me to a site called Lost and Found Vintage Toys maintained by Brenda Roudabush.

Brenda, who says she has “gotten to play happiness broker several times reuniting vintage kids with their old long lost toys,” got right to work and sent me some amazing scans of the instructions and more.

After piquing my interest with her knowledge of such things, I can’t recommend her more. If you’re a collector, and chances are very good that you are because, well you’re reading this, make sure to check out the site listed above. It’s like an encyclopedia of happiness! Enjoy, and tell her Creepy sent ya!

For even more fun check out my other go-to toy site, Raymond Castile’s Gallery of Monster Toys. Quick trivia re Ray… He’s the spitting image of Coffin Joe and played young Zé do Caixão in José Mojica Marins’ 2008 film Embodiment of Evil. How friggin’ cool is that? It’s a small and sometimes wonderful world, I tell ya!

“G2, baby. G2!”

I’m not going to lie to you guys and say that I know what this Blind Bag Collection is. It seems from the slick name that one shouldn’t know what’s exactly inside… but maybe I’m missing something.

Anyhow, none of that really matters as long as the Blind Bag Collection boasts such awesome shite as this Gremlins 2: The New Batch one from Monogram International does, then it’s all good.

The set seems to include a collection figural keyrings that include such classic Gremlins characters as Combat Gizmo, Brownie, Penny, Phantom, Stripe, Greta, Gizmo, Flasher, George, and Lightning Gremlin and Bat Gremlin.

You can check out pics from the “Gremlins Series 2 Blind Bag Collection” below as well as a fun unboxing video. After all that make sure to hit us up and let us know what you think!
