Diamond Select Signs License for Pacific Rim Uprising Collectibles

Published

on

Diamond Select Toys has locked down another licensing agreement for some pretty cool collectibles; and if you’re a Pacific Rim fan, you’ll want to read on for the details about the new Pacific Rim Uprising figures that are heading our way!

From the Press Release:
The 2017 blockbuster season has just started, but the countdown has already begun for one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2018 – Pacific Rim Uprising from Legendary and Universal Pictures. In 2013’s Pacific Rim, director Guillermo del Toro unveiled the first chapter of this spectacular universe of monsters and mechs, in which human-piloted machines called Jaegers rise to defend humanity against gigantic otherworldly monsters called Kaijus. The long-awaited sequel, Pacific Rim Uprising, takes the action to the next level with a sleek new generation of technologically advanced Jaeger mechs; a ferocious new breed of Kaiju monsters; and of course, a massive new line of toys and collectible merchandise from Diamond Select Toys!

Diamond Select Toys (DST) will offer a wide range of Pacific Rim Uprising products starting in 2018, including Select action figures, Minimates mini-figures, Vinimates vinyl figures, Gallery PVC dioramas, vinyl coin banks, replicas with lights and sound, and housewares. The movie will premiere in U.S. theaters on February 23, 2018; and DST plans to have the first products ship in time for the premiere.

“We’re incredibly excited to work on Pacific Rim Uprising, and we’re honored that Legendary came to us with this amazing opportunity to work on such a thrilling franchise property,” said DST president Chuck Terceira. “The original film was an epic, visually enthralling work of art; and we’ve had a blast working with the new Jaeger and Kaiju designs, turning them into some of the most detailed products we’ve ever made!”

All of DST’s products are available through independent comic shops, specialty stores, and online toy retailers, with selected items also available at Toys”R”Us and toysrus.com. Certain styles and characters will be available at all locations, while some will be exclusive to specific retailers.

In addition to new Jaegers and Kaiju, Pacific Rim Uprising will also showcase exciting new characters, as actors John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Scott Eastwood (Suicide Squad) join returning cast members Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Burn Gorman alongside some exciting new faces.

Produced by Guillermo del Toro, Pacific Rim Uprising will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight, original showrunner for “Marvel’s Daredevil” on Netflix. DeKnight was also the creator of “Spartacus” on Starz and was previously a writer and director on both “Buffy: The Vampire Slayer” and “Angel.” Diamond Select Toys previously created products for “Marvel’s Daredevil” as well as for both “Buffy” and “Angel.”

Vintage Toy Finder ALERT! If You Collect This Is a MUST-READ!

Published

on

Anyone who knows me knows that when it comes to collectibles, I’m like a moth to a flame. Especially vintage toys. I, like many of you, grew up in a dysfunctional family circus. When I reached a certain age, my parents saw fit to take my most beloved toys and give them away to younger kids or just trash them completely. I’m still devastated. My childhood was pretty much nil, and I’ve been swimming in chaos ever since.

Once things finally “calmed down” a bit, I began reclaiming these relics of happier times. Damned straight I got an 18″ Kenner Alien, a Stretch X-Ray doll, a Mighty Men and Monster Maker, the Bermuda Triangle board game, etc. I revel in them as few items make me as happy as they do. As a result I always keep my eye out for things, specifically horror related toys I may have missed.

Enter 1967’s Ka-Bala, the most insane and intricate Ouija board I’ve ever seen. I don’t use Ouijas, but once I saw this, it was love at first shiver. The problem with collecting toys like this is that rarely can you find them complete. For Christmas Debi tracked down Ka-Bala for me, BUT we were missing the instructions. There’s not much sense in playing or having a board game if you don’t know said rules.

I scoured the Internet but only came up with a few sites that were charging astronomical prices for replacement parts and/or instructions. It was ludicrous. So I busted out my Creepy resources and asked our resident board game loony David Hahn, who writes Last Meeple Standing for us, for some help. Within days he and his wondrous wife, Tiffany (who also works with David on Meeple), led me to a site called Lost and Found Vintage Toys maintained by Brenda Roudabush.

Brenda, who says she has “gotten to play happiness broker several times reuniting vintage kids with their old long lost toys,” got right to work and sent me some amazing scans of the instructions and more.

After piquing my interest with her knowledge of such things, I can’t recommend her more. If you’re a collector, and chances are very good that you are because, well you’re reading this, make sure to check out the site listed above. It’s like an encyclopedia of happiness! Enjoy, and tell her Creepy sent ya!

For even more fun check out my other go-to toy site, Raymond Castile’s Gallery of Monster Toys. Quick trivia re Ray… He’s the spitting image of Coffin Joe and played young Zé do Caixão in José Mojica Marins’ 2008 film Embodiment of Evil. How friggin’ cool is that? It’s a small and sometimes wonderful world, I tell ya!

“G2, baby. G2!”

I’m not going to lie to you guys and say that I know what this Blind Bag Collection is. It seems from the slick name that one shouldn’t know what’s exactly inside… but maybe I’m missing something.

Anyhow, none of that really matters as long as the Blind Bag Collection boasts such awesome shite as this Gremlins 2: The New Batch one from Monogram International does, then it’s all good.

The set seems to include a collection figural keyrings that include such classic Gremlins characters as Combat Gizmo, Brownie, Penny, Phantom, Stripe, Greta, Gizmo, Flasher, George, and Lightning Gremlin and Bat Gremlin.

You can check out pics from the “Gremlins Series 2 Blind Bag Collection” below as well as a fun unboxing video. After all that make sure to hit us up and let us know what you think!
