Hawkes Set for Daybreakers

It’s about damn time we got some more news on the Spierig Brothers’ next film (their first was the under-rated zombcom Undead), the futuristic vampire film Daybreakers. Seems the movie’s been gestating about as long as I’ve been running a horror site, which is quite a while as some of you know.
The Hollywood Reporter announced this morning that Ethan Hawke will topline the film, which begins shooting in Australia this July. Weta Workshop is still on board to do the effects, which means we’re in for some damn fine looking vampires.
Hawkes will portray a researcher in 2017, years after a plague has changed most of the world’s population into vampires. A lot of vamps and no humans spells all sorts of problems, so they’re looking for alternative food sources when a covert group of vampires makes a discovery that might save the remaining humans, and a battle begins.
