Heartbreaking Disturbing Scene Cut from LET ME IN Shows Night Abby was Turned into a Vampire

Mother Nature is tightening her icy grip across the Northern Hemisphere and, as such, we’ve dubbed January “Winter HorrorLand” with a #MonthOfDread that features a new, shiver-inducing genre flick each and every day. Yesterday’s selection was Let Me In, Matt Reeves’ remake of the Swedish megahit Let the Right One In.

While looking for a juicy bit of trivia to share along with our daily #MonthOfDread Twitter post, I stumbled across something truly compelling. Apparently, there was a scene cut from the film, a sequence where Abby (Chloë Grace Moretz) uses telepathy to show Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee) how she was first turned into a vampire.
In Let the Right One In, we know nothing about Eli’s life before the film begins, so giving her American counterpart a backstory would have been a major innovation. I was able to find the deleted scene online and found both heartbreaking and deeply disturbing. In other words, it’s absolutely worth sharing. Be warned: The scene is intentionally set up to echo a sexual assault which, considering Abby’s age (pubescent) is exceptionally unsettling.
IMDB offers insight into why this scene didn’t make the final cut:
Director Matt Reeves explained why a deleted scene, showing Abby (Chloë Grace Moretz) being attacked as a human, was cut. (The scene was released on the Internet.) Contrary to the belief that the scene, depicting her being changed to a vampire and entering Owen’s mind, would be too intense for the viewers, Reeves stated that he felt the scene would have disturbed the flow of the film. He remarked that he wished it would have been able to make the final cut.

Synopsis:
Bullied at school, neglected at home and incredibly lonely, 12-year-old Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee) spends his days plotting revenge on his tormentors and spends his nights spying on other residents of the apartment complex. His sole friend is Abby (Chloë Grace Moretz), a strange girl who comes out only at nighttime. Both outcasts, the two form a strong bond. When Abby’s caretaker disappears amid a series of gruesome murders, Owen begins to suspect that she is hiding a terrible secret.
