We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to talk to the very talented actress Mindy Robinson about her role in the upcoming zombie film Range 15.

Range 15 comes from Helen Keller vs. Nightwolves director Ross Patterson and features a big name cast including William Shatner, Danny Trejo, and Sean Astin.

Dread Central: Can you tell us about your role in Range 15?

Mindy Robinson: Since the film is directed by and produced by veterans, my character gets to ask a lot of questions that civilians… or girls, in the case of me and my cohort Jessie Wiseman’s character…. might have about what’s going on.

DC: How did filming go?

MR: Filming was a blast; everyone was there because they loved the project and wanted to be part of it. I wish more Hollywood sets were like that.

DC: What sets the film apart from other zombie movies?

MR: Zombies by nature are a kind of hokey idea. I mean, shouldn’t the muscles deteriorate and the body dry up rather quickly? Two years into “The Walking Dead,” and most of the zombie population is still mobile; I call total horseshit! Range 15 pokes fun at the zombie apocalypse in a way only veterans could.

DC: So, what was it like starring alongside huge names like William Shatner and Danny Trejo?

MR: The only thing cooler than having the great names in the film that we did was how nice and gracious they all were off camera!

DC: You also worked on Evil Bong: High 5 from legendary director Charles Band. How did you find that?

MR: I’ve done several films for Charles Band, like Babes Behind Bars and including three from the Evil Bong series alone. He’s legendary for a reason… he knows his audience, he loves what he does, and I’ll hopefully continue doing Full Moon movies for as long as they’ll have me. I just love that crew, and fun sets like that are why I like being an actor in the first place.

DC: Looking at your IMDb profile, you have a ton of upcoming projects in development. How do you balance so many movies?

MR: When I was getting started with acting, I was filming projects pretty much non-stop. Too many actors get caught up in booking that lead role in a studio film… but that’s just not realistic. I decided that I was going to small role the shit out of Hollywood, and I think it worked well for me. I did a shit ton of 1- to 3-day roles in indies.. .that way I could do more projects and didn’t tie myself up long-term in one project that may or may not ever come out. In the last two years, though, I’ve been able to be pickier about the projects I’ve said yes to… holding out for bigger roles and better projects as well… and I can say I’m proud of everything I’ve got coming out now because of it.

DC: Are you worried about being typecast as a horror actress?

MR: I feel like I’m more of a comedic actress than anything… I purposefully avoid the term “Scream Queen” now as much as possible because I think it’s over-used by struggling actresses trying way too hard to seem relevant. Basically, horror films make up such a big part of indie film that I just kind of keep ending up in them, which is fine because honestly they’re a blast to do!

Overall, I’m excited about this upcoming year. I’ve got a lot of films coming out… horror films like The Doll (starring the real-life Ukrainian Barbie), Hallucinogen, and Bleach (with Tom Sizemore and Eric Roberts); comedic horrors like Range 15, Sharknado 4 (with Ian Zeiring and Tommy Davison), and Bloodsucka Jones and the Creeping Death; as well as comedies like The Bet (with Jake the Snake and Roddy Piper) and You’re Gonna Miss Me (with John Schneider and Morgan Fairchild) and action/thrillers like Check Point (with William Forsythe and Bill Goldberg) and You Can’t Have It (with Rob Gronkowski and Armand Assante).
