Thailand’s Museum of Death is Almost Guaranteed to Gross You Out

I don’t know about you, but it’s been a long time since I’ve puked in a museum. And I don’t mean a little dribble — I’m talking about good, old-fashioned projectile vomiting. If I was ever forced to wander through the halls of Thailand’s so-called Museum of Death, you can rest assured that whatever was in my stomach would find its way onto the floor in no time flat.

Those traveling through Bangkok (and who possess a very strong stomach) can visit the Siriraj Medical Museum, a place that’s packed with medical specimens, dead bodies, and some very unnerving deformities. According to All Night, the Museum of death consists of five different museums, including the Congdon Anatomical Museum, which features an array of dead fetuses and deceased children of varying ages. Some of them are skeletons, others are bodies split in half. It’s cold, sterile, and kind of gruesome. It’s also incredibly informative and educational, assuming you can handle it.

If dead children really aren’t doing it for you that day, then perhaps the Prehistoric Museum and Laboratory and the Forensic Medicine Museum will satisfy your thirst for macabre knowledge. The museum also serves as the final resting place for the mummified remains of Si Ouey Sae Urng, Thailand’s very first serial killer. The guy reportedly killed and ate children, which brings us back around to dead kids again. That’s not a theme you’ll find at a lot of major museums.

You’re probably thinking, “Hey, Todd. You watch a never-ending stream of gory horror movies featuring all sorts of cinematic nastiness. How can this stuff possibly turn your stomach?” Here’s the thing: Horror flicks aren’t real. As soon as you give me anything grounded in reality — surgery videos, for example — I’m trying to keep my dinner down. While I’m a little grossed out by the stuff on display at the Museum of Death, others may not bat an eyelash. Different strokes and all that.

Since jumping on a plane and heading to Bangkok, Thailand, doesn’t really fit into most lifestyles, the next best thing to visiting the Siriraj Medical Museum is watching YouTube videos. You can find a couple of clips down below, but be warned: they’re more than a little disturbing, so sally forth at your own risk! Don’t blame us if you get barf on your keyboard.
