Paul Feig Talks Ghostbusters – Why a Reboot Instead of a Sequel?

The reaction to the premiere of the new Ghostbusters trailer this morning was met with mostly positive buzz, but fans still want to know… is it a sequel? Does it take place in the same universe as the films? Is it a reboot, and if so, why do that over a sequel…

In a recent interview with CinemaBlend director, Paul Feig explains…

“This is such an amazing franchise, with two amazing movies, but it could just keep going! There’s so many things you can do with it. It just seemed terrible to leave it in a box. And yet, at the same time, there’s something exciting about the idea of bringing it to a new generation, but this time… see an origin story of them. I know some people are like, ‘Why is it not a sequel instead of a reboot?’ I didn’t like the idea, personally, of them being handed technology – ‘Here’s how to do this.’ I want to see it develop!”

Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones are our new paranormal investigators along with their loyal secretary Chris Hemsworth. Neil Casey, Andy Garcia, Michael K. Williams, Matt Walsh, Pat Kiernan, Cecily Strong, and Charles Dance also star. Cameos will include the original film’s stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts. Plus Ozzy Osbourne.

The Ghostbusters reboot will haunt the big screen on July 15, 2016.
