Freeform, the network formerly known as ABC Family, is developing an ’80s set slasher series titled “Dead of Summer,” and as production gets ready to begin, the latest casting news has come across our desk. Read on!

Per TV Line, “Once Upon a Time” co-stars Elizabeth Mitchell and Elizabeth Lail have been cast in the upcoming horror/drama series. Mitchell will play Deb, the new owner of Camp Clearwater. A former camper, Deb presents a warm and welcoming vibe to mask her potentially dark reason for wanting control of the camp. Lail will play Amy, one of Clearwater’s newest counselors — and the first to start unravelling its twisted secrets.

The cast also includes Zelda Williams (“Teen Wolf”), Alberto Frezza (“Charlie’s Angels”), Eli Goree (“The 100”), Mark Indelicato (“Ugly Betty”), Ronen Rubinstein (“Orange Is the New Black”), and Paulina Singer (“Gotham”).

Set in the late 1980s, school is out for the summer and a sun-drenched season of firsts beckons the counselors at Camp Clearwater, a seemingly idyllic Midwestern summer camp, including first loves, first kisses—and first kills. Clearwater’s dark, ancient mythology awakens, and what was supposed to be a summer of fun soon turns into one of unforgettable scares and evil at every turn.

Series creators/executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis (“Once Upon a Time”) will direct the first episode. Production will begin in March, with ABC Signature Studios and Kitsis/Horowitz producing. Adam Horowitz, Edward Kitsis, and Ian Goldberg will write and executive produce the series.
