We have some sad news to report today as popular British actor Alan Rickman has passed away at the age of 69 following a brief battle with cancer.

Per CNN, Rickman was born in 1946 to a working-class West London family, and in 1978 he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company, followed by roles in British television and theater. He rose to worldwide fame in films such as Die Hard, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and Sense and Sensibility; but it’s the character of Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films for which he’s sure to be most remembered.

As for horror, he graced our genre just a few times, in 2006’s Perfume: The Story of a Murderer and 2007’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. He also voiced the Blue Caterpillar in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and its upcoming sequel, Alice Through the Looking Glass.

Tributes to the actor have been pouring in online, and if you’d like to add yours, feel free to leave a few remarks in the comments section below.  Godspeed, sir, and thank you for the many wonderful memories!
