CBS is hoping that tales of vampires still have some bite left in them as Deadline is reporting that 16th century Hungarian countess Elizabeth Báthory is the subject of a drama series project from “Battlestar Galactica” alum David Eick and producer Joel Silver.

“Bathory,” produced by Lionsgate TV and Silver Pictures, tells the story of woman nicknamed the “Blood Countess” and “Countess Dracula.” Considered the world’s most prolific serial killer, Báthory is believed to have tortured and murdered more than 600 girls. She also is known for her vampire-like tendencies, including drinking the girls’ blood. Báthory eventually was arrested, tried, and convicted, spending her last days in solitary confinement. Eick will write the script and will executive produce with Silver.

Eick is also developing “Gateway,” a series adaptation of Frederik Pohl’s sci-fi novel about humanity’s encounter with an alien civilization, for Syfy, Entertainment One TV, and Universal Cable Prods. He recently served as executive producer/showrunner on TNT’s “Falling Skies” and previously co-developed and executive produced Syfy’s “Battlestar Galactica” and executive produced spinoff “Caprica.”
