Gil Kenan Directing Five Nights at Freddy’s for Warner Brothers

Few video games have creeped out the masses more than Five Nights at Freddy’s, created by Scott Cawthon and released in 2014. The game, which has to date spawned three sequels, was recently snapped up for a big screen adaptation by Warner Bros., and this week a director has been found.
Fresh off of directing the Poltergeist remake, Deadline reports that Gil Kenan (Monster House) has made a deal with Warner Bros. to direct the live-action adaptation of the popular video game series. Kenan will pen the script with Tyler Burton Smith.
Five Nights at Freddy’s is an online sensation that takes place in a Chuck-E-Cheese-like eatery, where an animatronic animal that is part of the house band becomes a murderer at night. Players who’ve been locked inside try to survive the rampaging murder machine and his furry cohorts.
Hatched in 2014, this became a popular app game, and players have the benefit of seeing what’s coming thanks to a series of security cameras that warn of approaching danger.
Roy Lee is producing with Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg, and Adam Stone and Jay Ireland are exec producing with Jon Berg and Nik Mavinkurve overseeing for the studio.
