Vixen Velvet’s Zombie Massacre Premieres at Revelation Perth International Film Festival
Anytime someone asks me for a horror movie recommendation, I’m almost always quick to suggest The Loved Ones, a film that remains underappreciated. Sean Byrne’s offbeat descent into madness is almost perfect and holds up very well with repeat viewings. Needless to say, projects that involve anyone from The Loved Ones are bound to catch my attention.
Mark Lazarus, who produced The Loved Ones, recently debuted his latest endeavor, Stefan Popescu’s Vixen Velvet’s Zombie Massacre, at the Revelation Perth International Film Festival last weekend. Don’t get turned off by the fact that this is a horror/comedy — it sounds intriguing.
The RPIFF website had plenty to say about the flick. And according to the film’s Facebook page, the film’s screening quickly sold out and received an enthusiastic response from those in attendance.
Shot as a fake-fly-on-the-wall documentary about unlikely porn star Vixen Velvet as she makes her latest sex movie. Torn between her desire to be taken seriously as an actress, the porno film is rapidly hi-jacked by the star, who vows to turn the low budget sex film into a “cult” zombie movie. But then events take a real turn for the weird following an outbreak of a mysterious disease that threatens the small town and all its inhabitants.
Vixen Velvet’s Zombie Massacre is almost the perfect case study in how to make low budget movies. Shot for next to nothing, with the entire community rallying around to help Popescu complete the shoot. There’s a wild and kinetic aesthetic at play, and the entire movie is shot through with a kind of nervous jittery energy that takes the audience along for the ride.
Vixen Velvet’s Zombie Massacre doesn’t have distribution or a trailer as of this writing, but we’ll bring you up-to-date as soon as we learn more. In the meantime, have a look at a handful of stills.
