If you’ve watched a genre movie in the last ten years, odds are you’ve seen David Dastmalchian. While often relegated to a side character, whether as Joker’s minion in The Dark Night or as Pola-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad (2021), recently he’s gotten his time to shine as Jack Delroy in the Australian pseudo-documentary Late Night With The Devil. Emulating late night talk shows of the 60s and 70s, Dastmalchian proves he can carry almost an entire film squarely on his shoulders.

In Late Night With The Devil,

Johnny Carson rival Jack Delroy hosts a syndicated talk show ‘Night Owls’ that has long been a trusted companion to insomniacs around the country. However, ratings for the show have plummeted since the tragic death of Jack’s beloved wife. Desperate to turn his fortunes around, on October 31st, 1977, Jack plans a Halloween special like no other—unaware he is about to unleash evil into the living rooms of America.

We spoke with Dastmalchian on crafting his brand of talk show host, the allure of the occult, and more.
