Ever since we first started covering the live action version of Jonah Hex, it's been a little unclear as to exactly how many genre elements had been written into the script. But now some clarification has come down courtesy of Jimmy Palmiotti, one of the co-writers of the original DC Comics series on which the film is based.

John Malkovich will be going head-to-head with Josh Brolin in the upcoming adaptation of Jonah Hex, Variety reported this morning. The film is finally set to roll in April after numerous setbacks and delays.

Now this is an odd turn of events; THR reported this morning that Horton Hears a Who director Jimmy Hayward has signed on to make his live action debut with the DC Comic adaptation Jonah Hex, which has been stagnant for a bit after the Crank directors departed the project.

Word has come down via Variety this morning that Josh Brolin is in talks to take on the title role in Warner Bros. upcoming adaptation of the DC comic Jonah Hex, the script for which was penned by the Crank team of Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine. The duo will also direct.

Strangely enough, I could see Josh Brolin doing well as Snake Plissken. I mean, in a world where we just have to accept that yes, they are remaking Escape From New York, Brolin’s certainly not the worst choice to don the eyepatch.
