10 Bizarre Scary Movie Themes For Your Halloween Party Playlists

Music and movies go hand in hand. That’s why we love to see a song written for a movie. This phenomenon was fantastically chaotic in the 1980s and 1990s. The amount of cheese that exists at the intersection of horror movies and pop music artists is a thing of perfection. This is why I volunteered as tribute to compile this list of horror movie themes you should include in your Halloween party playlist. I am not a professional DJ, but I know these songs are sure to get a party started (or stopped) like the roof is on fire.

From Killer Klowns from Outer Space
A lot of us remember 1988’s Killer Klowns from Outer Space. However, most of us forgot The Dickies gave us this gem reiterating that these are, in fact, killer klowns from outer space. Grateful Youtube had the official music video to allow me to see all of this 80s goodness with my own eyes.

Remember when Alice Cooper basically sang the plot of most Friday the 13th movies? The song even goes as far as to incorporate Jason’s signature murder sound cue to make sure you know which masked man this is about.

If you want a slow jam for your party, then Tuesday Night is your girl. She is “running from this nightmare” in this moody 80s bop. You know you want the ghouls to slow dance at your party while she describes the Freddy Effect as, “a heart attack on a one-way street.”
Dream Warriors by Dokken

The Band Dokken took a different approach with their ballad to Petty Freddy. They proclaimed themselves the dream warriors, but admitted that they, “Don’t wanna dream no more.” The band also took the time to terrorize some clips from the movie in this official video.
Are You Ready for Freddy? by The Fat Boys feat. Freddy Krueger
From A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master
Of all the Freddy Krueger theme songs, none are as cool as The Fat Boys’. Their theme song is so fun that even Freddy Krueger showed up with bars. A lot is happening in this song, so you might want to sneak it onto your playlist a few times to make sure everyone really appreciates it.
Pet Sematary by Ramones

I was obsessed with the Ramones as a youth and am happy they brought their energy to the Pet Sematary soundtrack. They showed up and called shenanigans on Stephen King’s idea with lyrics like, “I don’t want to be buried in a pet sematary, I don’t want to live my life again.”
Goodbye Horses by Q Lazzarus
From The Silence of the Lambs
This song wasn’t made for The Silence of the Lambs, but it does make the movie. It’s the kind of synth-pop new wave that your guests can dance to. Or sit around thinking about how messed up the movie it’s associated with truly is. Either way, it’s a jam and always makes me wonder what Q Lazzarus would have done if the world was kinder to Black women.
Love Song for A Vampire by Annie Lennox
From Bram Stoker’s Dracula
When you are ready for people to leave your house, Annie Lennox has the slowest bop. Tell them to take it home after they slowly sway to this ode to vampire lust. It is an earworm right out of the 90s that’s going to stand out on this playlist.
Tonight (We’ll Make Love Until We Die) by SSQ
From The Return of the Living Dead
It was something about the living dead that was getting people all hot and bothered during this era. SSQ ran in with this song demanding that survivors look at their priorities. Their logic is sound because if the zombies are coming anyway, you might as well have sex until you die.
Wait For the Rain by David A. Hess
From The Last House on the Left
This song is weird, and it is also an outlier because it’s from the 70s. It has a lot of instrumentation and can only be described as a trippy strange little diddy. Seeing the soundtrack it’s from though, I don’t know what we should’ve expected.
