Hulu’s Craig Erwich Gives An Update On Marvel’s HELSTROM TV Series

Despite the closure of Marvel Television at the end of last year, the upcoming horror series Helstrom has remained in development, with Marvel Studios now producing alongside ABC. Fans will also be pleased to know that production is moving along smoothly, with Craig Erwich, who serves as Hulu’s Senior Vice President of Originals, saying the following at the Television Critics Association winter press event:

“We’re in production on Helstrom. I’ve seen the first four episodes of that as well [as the animated M.O.D.O.K.]. I’m really excited about it. And it’s definitely a different corner of the Marvel Universe in terms of its horror.”

While he didn’t reveal much, it’s good to know that Erwich is enthusiastic about the show and that he’s satisfied with how production is coming along. He’s also clearly excited about the fact that Helstrom will be the first true horror series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans have been missing out on seeing a darker and more gritty side of the MCU since the cancellation of all the Marvel Netflix shows, so Helstrom might fill that void. However, there’s currently no word on when Helstrom will chronologically take place in the MCU timeline.

Tom Austen stars as Daimon Hellstrom, the titular demonic anti-hero, who works as an ethics professor when he’s not protecting humanity from demons. Sydney Lemmon will star as his sister Ana, with Elizabeth Marvel as his human mother Victoria, and Ariana Guerra as Gabriella, an agent sent by the Vatican to assist Helstrom in his fight against the forces of darkness.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is not listed among the producers for Hellstrom, which may be due to the fact that he had no involvement with Marvel Television, who were originally developing the series. However, Jeph Loeb, who served as the Executive Vice President of Marvel Television from 2010 until it was folded into Marvel Studios last year, is producing, so we know the show is in safe hands. Filming began in Vancouver last October, and will wrap this month.

We can expect to see all ten episodes of the first season of Helstrom on Hulu later this year.
