Godzilla
Starring GODZILLA, Raymond Burr, Akira Takarada, Momoko Kochi, Akihiko Hirata, Takashi Shimura, Fuyuki Murakami
We've seen dozens of fake designs for Legendary's upcoming Godzilla flick, and all have proved to be fake. Recently, though, the folks at Toho Kingdom got their hands on two new images of what the creature could look like that are indeed the real McCoy.
In the northeast corner of the Dread Central offices, we have a tiny shrine built to the king of all monsters, Godzilla. Each morning we leave an offering of mini-military vehicles in a tiny basket at his mighty feet, just praying that the new American flick will actually be good. Speaking of which, there's been some more movement on its front.
Ever since it was announced that the original 1954 version of Godzilla is being released onto Criterion Blu-ray and DVD, we've been salivating at the possibilities. And now ... we have all of the details for you right here!
Let us be clear ... the image that you're about to see depicting what could be Legendary Pictures' take on Godzilla is completely and totally UNCONFIRMED. That being said ... damn it's cool, but we wouldn't hold our breath.
You see now, news like this? You cannot imagine how happy it makes us to share it with you. For years the Criterion Collection has been the gold standard in home video releases. The true mark of excellence. Now not only is Godzilla getting the royal Criterion treatment, but a rare print has been discovered that will be the icing on the cake!
Hi, Legendary Pictures? Yeah, it's me, Uncle Creepy. Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. Just writing to you in regard to your upcoming remake of the classic film Godzilla.
The news that David Goyer has been hired by Legendary Pictures to pen Godzilla doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Isn’t there some unwritten law in Hollywood that the prolific Mr. Goyer must at some point have his hand in crafting every popular geek property in Hollywood?
Assuming you have a humongous front door or outstanding insurance, Thursdays in June will be good night to pull your car into the living room, park it in front of your flatscreen, turn the channel to TCM, and try to relive the golden age of drive-in monster movies as TCM is loading its schedule this month with nothing but classic old school monster movies.
I don't think it's possible for anyone to want an actual good Godzilla flick more than we do here at Dread Central. Big G is close to all of our hearts and when news broke that another American one was on the way our hopes kind of sunk weighed down by memories of giant iguana chickens and bad New York accents. Then a glimmer of optimism appeared in the form of director Gareth Edwards.
IDW Publishing announced that Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters Issue #1 sold out just a day after making its debut at comic book retail stores throughout North America. Written by Eric Powell and Tracy Marsh, with artwork by Phil Hester, the rapid sell-out marks a fantastically successful return for the giant fire-breathing lizard to comics.
There are few things we find more irresistible than the Japanese giant monster movies of yesteryear. A staple of many of our childhoods, these wonderfully campy flicks live on today through DVD and Blu-ray and are bound to charm generations to come into loving huge city stompers.
One of my favorite films of last year was Gareth Edwards' Monsters. Part sci-fi epic, part intricate character study, the film blew me away from beginning to end. With its home release this week, I was excited to have the opportunity to catch up with Edwards again during his press rounds.
It was last October during the New York Comic Con that we first got word of IDW's partnership with Toho Co., Ltd., to create all-new Godzilla comics, and now the first two issues - Godzilla: Monster World and Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters - are available for pre-order. Read on for their synopses and to see the cover art.
I kind of hate even writing this story because I honestly believe it will be quickly debunked. If the author of a Pittsburgh Examiner article is correct, Toho is preparing to bring Godzilla back to Japanese theaters in December of 2012 at the same time Legendary Pictures and Monsters director Gareth Edwards are releasing their megabudget 3D Godzilla on screens worldwide.
