Alien Uprising

If you've upgraded your system to include a Blu-ray player, then this is a pretty good week for you as August 4th will see the release of a few old friends including Blade II, Hannibal Rising, and Mimic. On the newer end of the spectrum, we have sci-fi/horror hybrids Alien Uprising and The Mutant Chronicles along with watch-it-at-your-own-risk fare like Cravings, The Chaos Experiment, Nature's Grave, and the anthology Slices.

Just because it's the 21st Century doesn't mean there is no longer room for movies that shamelessly riff on the Alien films. They were a hallmark of sci-fi cinema back in the Eighties and well into the Nineties. Now here we are in the Zeroes, and this August there will be an Alien Uprising.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't we mere days away from the start of 2009? Isn't it a little late in the game to be producing blatant knock-offs of the Alien movies?
